A Practical Definition of the Concept or Phenomenon of Oppression

I reflect on the difference between ordinary and oppressive violence, so I can introduce the kyriarchy concept. First, I list reasons for using this definition, which are related with the confusion created in the absence of this concept; then I provide further reasons on why not understanding this concept weakens our actions and strategies for transforming this public problem. Second, I offer a practical definition of kyriarchy that comprehends concepts such as narratives, minoritized groups, micro aggressions, discrimination, violence, and residual effects. Throughout the text I differentiate between modern and traditional prejudices and oppressions. I build on concepts coming from philosophy, sociology, and social psychology.
